We booked the William and Mary Suite for our anniversary stay. Room had a queen bed, dresser, wardrobe with robes, small seating area and tv. The private bathroom was stocked with plenty of clean towels/wash clothes as well as some toiletries. The Inn also offers a common seating area with TV, publications to read, coffee, teas, lemonade, and cookies. There are breakfast offering each morning from 8am - 9am. My only complaint was we wish this was available until like 9:30. It kind of made us feel rushed to get up and out earlier than we liked while on vacation. All and all, we loved our visit and hope to stay there again soon. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable of the area.

The stay was perfect for a historical getaway. The managers and staff were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The rooms were clean, romantic and themed. The morning breakfast was delicious along with the wonderful coffee. The location was an easy walk to all the things Williamsburg has to offer.

I had the best stay at the Fife and Drum Inn. In the Colonial Williamsburg area, it is clean, comfortable, unique, quiet and the staff is so friendly. They made me feel as if I was at home. I could not have asked for anything more! I wish everyone well. If I could move in, I certainly would!

"Mostly good, a couple of cons"

We booked the Cedars Suite for 3 nights. The good: Excellent location!!! You cannot beat it. Just walk out and walk right into the colonial area. Next door was a tea shop, and a Kilwin's (ice cream, fudge, and caramel peanut popcorn), and also a little cheeseburger/shake place Another plus is the innkeepers are really really nice. The not so good: The Cedars Suite had a king bed that was terrible to sleep on...and our son age 13 had an air mattress to sleep on. While we were thrilled that Fife & Drum accommodated him with the air mattress, it leaked. By morning, he was folded in two with his hind end on the floor. So 2nd night, they put another air mattress in there. It also leaked. Same result. So we paid for our 3 nights and found another place to stay for the 3rd night. While we did have to pay for the 3rd night, we were offered a small discount for the 3rd person. If you are a picky eater, breakfast might be a bit lean. Casseroles are difficult for a picky eater. And the only cereal was some sort of granola. So if you want cherios, bring a little baggie of them. There was also yogurt, biscuits, biscuits with ham, and some bacon. There was jelly for the biscuits, but our picky eater wasn't too sure what sort it was. The other odd issue was there was a nice ice bucket in our suite so we brought it out to the main area to fill it, except we did not see an ice machine.....there was a small ice bucket there with almost no ice in it and a child emptying it out into her ice bucket. So maybe the inn keepers could post a sign on where to get ice for their suite. All in all, a nice place, wonderful people, but just not a good stay for us. And watch the stairway coming in.....lugging a heavy piece of luggage up is dangerous. Coming down with it is even worse. I might add, we did a half day at Yorktown Revolution Museum, then 1 full day exploring the buildings in Colonial Williamsburg, starting down at the Capitol and working our way back and doing the Governor Palace last. Then the third day at Historic Jamestown and Jamestown Settlement. We enjoyed lunch at Shields Tavern, and dinner at the D.O.G. Pub. In Yorktown, try the Water Street Grill for pizza and cobbler.

"The best place to stay in Williamsburg - a lovely stay!"

Having stayed at another hotel on a previous trip, I decided I wanted to stay in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg on this visit. I was not disappointed at all with this visit! I stayed here for a couple of nights on a mother/daughter trip, and both of us agree that we had the best night's sleep at the Fife and Drum out of all the places we stayed on our week long trip to Washington & Virginia. Billy gave a warm welcome, and arranged discounted historic triangle tickets for us. We had free parking that was easily situated from the B&B, a wonderful home-cooked breakfast that was included (so rare these days!), and the room (we had the Yorktown) was comfortable and homely. Being situated right in CW, we were in walking distance and ready to explore everything right from when it opened at 9am. There really is nothing that I can fault. It was a wonderful place to come back to after exploring the area, and I know that the next time I visit I will be looking for a room at the Fife & Drum.
