For our 50th Wedding Anniversary our children presented us with a trip to Williamsburg and Washington D.C. with reservations at the Powhatten Resort for 4 nights. As we'd never visited Williamsburg we didn't know what to expect upon checking in at the Powhatten Resort. Check in was typical for any other facility we've stayed at with the exception of seeing the In House Marketing Supervisor prior to going to our Condo. After traveling all day and visiting Jamestown for several hours we were rather tired and just wanted to get something to eat and not hear a sales pitch. Unfortunately this wasn't to be. The In House Marketing person insisted that we attend a sales meeting during our stay. Deciding to be patient and listen to how informative the presentation would be and just wanting to eat and get to bed we foolishly agreed. Sensing our hesitation the individual upped the gift card amount from $100.00 to $150.00 saying she could do that because she was a supervisor. Later in our stay we decided to cancel our appointment and returned to the lobby to do so. We spoke to another representative who stated that he was also a supervisor and actually raised the gift card to $200.00. We still didn't want to attend and stated so. Question, are there any In House Marketing Reps that aren't supervisors? I don't want to detract from how much we enjoyed our stay at the Powhatten Resort because we certainly did. The Condos/Rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The king size bed in the facility was second to none in comfort and the pillows were the best we've ever had. We had a kitchen with a full sized refrigerator, dish washer and washer and dryer. The living room was also very comfortable and the TV and cable service were great. And if it hadn't been so cold I'm sure the deck would have been the same. I would certainly go back but would just pass the In House Marketing stop as this was the only reason the Resort didn't get 5 Star/Excellent rating. Hoping to go back.

"Poor service"

The price was great but the service was slow -- 30 minutes to get coffee at the restaurant (that arrived cold), 25 minutes to get cards reprogrammed that were not programmed correctly in the first place, 25 minutes to check in, hard sell by the concierge to book again before we had even gotten to our room. The worst thing is structural: the outdoor units for the heat pumps (yours and your upstairs neighbor) is right outside the master bedroom window. You may as well have been in a low budget motel, but at least in that situation you could turn it off or on constant "on." In our case, we turned ours off but the upstairs neighbor (which was ironically the closest to our window) turned off and on all night, humming and buzzing. The grounds are beautiful, but we won't stay there again.

My family and I stayed at this resort from July 9-16, 2016. Checkin was a bit of a madhouse but we expected that considering it was a busy weekend. Checkin was flawless and the line moved very quickly. We were assigned to a unit in the back of the property 334C first floor. The person that checked us in told us the unit was recently renovated, so we were really looking forward to our stay. We reserved a two bedroom two bath unit with a full kitchen. And I have to say, everything in the main areas of the unit was nicely appointed. The only initial "big" snag was the wood paneled sun room off of the master bedroom. It was moldy and hot. And there were spider webs and spider eggs everywhere. When I say hot, I mean sauna hot. But okay, so I resolved we just don't use this space and keep the door closed. Otherwise it was a nice unit. I had never been to Williamsburg VA before and a creepy room wasn't going to be a deal breaker. Besides I don't go on vacation to stay in my room. I, like so many others go away to see the attractions, history, and have fun. However, I have food sensitivities/allergies and I like the option of preparing my own meals when travelling. So I always opt for a kitchenette at the very least. My husband and I inspected the rest of the unit, unpacked, and went to play a little tennis and racquetball with our son. When we got back to the unit is when things got interesting. Evidently some parents got together and decided to send their kids (not just teens but littler kids) on vacation away from them. The kids upstairs stomped above us for hours. And when they weren't stomping they were running up and down the stairs slamming doors and screaming in the way that kids scream when they're playing/ This went on for hours, into the wee hours of the morning. We called security three times that first night and was reassured that it wouldn't happen again after about the second call. And then it did, night after night. And we called security and the front desk night after night and day after day. Evidently the parents were staying in another unit in another section of the resort, away from their kids b/c someone showed up for security. The kids would quiet down long enough for us to go to sleep. And the next day it would start all over again. And evidently this party knew the resorts rules very well. We repeatedly asked to be moved to another unit or that something be done about the issue, and was told that Powhatan didn't have another unit available. And here's the kicker, they couldn't remove the group until there were three consecutive complaints. Well there was three consecutive complaints and they didn't do a thing about the situation. We felt like we were just being tolerated because we weren't timeshare owners. And to add insult to injury, evidently the resort is owned by Marriott, so guess what, for the last two years they have been calling my husband and I incessantly trying to get us to visit other properties.. The person we spoke with at check out expressed the right amount of sympathy and seemed to be shocked at our experience. She advised that we would hear from a manager. We've never heard from anyone. I will be adding a video and pics later.

We stayed in Nov and got a great rate, my only complaint is when I booked it we were told our place would have a fireplace and twin beds with a living room area....we did not receive twin beds, fireplace and there was a living room area but on the second floor (loft) which had a fold out couch.... its just not what we were expecting and was told. We had a newer place that was very nice and I had the best sleep I have had in YEARS... the bed was sooooo nice and the sheets were soft and lush. Customer service over the phone was horrible (speaking to someone in Vegas) but in person was amazing.
