****UPDATE REVIEW**** I just wanted to do a follow-up about my second stay to make up for the unfavorable stay from my prior weekend. The manager reached out to me and I decided to give it another shot. I checked in for 1 night on October 7. Night time front desk person that checked me is was friendly and pleasant to see. I stayed in room 120 and even though it was a smoking room there wasn't a harsh smoky odor at all. The room was clean and fully supplied. Parking was right next to my room and convenient. The only issue that I had was with the AC unit. Whenever the AC stopped blowing it made a loud wining noise for a few seconds and then it would fade and stop. I can say that my stay this time around was 3.5-star. I saw the improvements. I have attached pictures for you to review. I am a 2018 Kings Dominion season pass holder and as the year approaches I hope that you can maintain this status (nice hospitality & cleanness). ****VERY DISAPPOINTED**** I visit this location because my job was having there annual picnic, and they had it at Kings Dominion. This location is close the park which is the only plus. However they do not offer shuttle service any longer. Usually I stay at the La Quinta Inns & Suites (will be there next year). I booked my room on September 14 and my stay was not until September 23. When I first arrived there was 1 person at the counter and 1 staff (female) helper her. After she was finished the worker walked behind a wall and never acknowledged me. I waited a few minutes said "hello", still nothing, so I waited longer and still nothing. I could hear people in the back working, laughing, and talking. But still I was not helped. Then the lady came from behind the wall and said, "I heard you, but I was on the phone". The lady that appeared was not in uniform or casual attire, tattoos showing in a sleeveless shirt, and also made it known that this was supposed to be her day off, but to me that is no excuse for what I experienced. Then she proceed to use the first computer which was not working properly so she went to the next computer, after she clearly was frustrated and said f*ck (which was said more then once while helping me), about that, right in front of me. Then as she was checking on the computer for my room, my room was given away! I checked in at 4 (check in time). I tried to called before to see if we could check in early however I was placed on hold so long that I arrived at the hotel before anyone could answer. She tried to explain that some times Expedia will book there rooms and actually over book the hotel. She also told me that if people arrived before me and had a room reserved they would assign it. She then gave me the bridal suite (room 326 & 327) in place of my King room I originally reserved. She asked another worker to check the room and a gentlemen told her he checked the room and it was ready. The decor of this 2 room suite was laid out very nice and it was very spacious too. However, there were dead bugs on the floor! There were no towels or washcloths in the entire suite! The walls are thin and you can hear people around you! The water for the bathroom was a brownish color. The toilet would refill loudly every 15-20 minutes. It was so loud that it actually sound like a grown person was using the bathroom. Overall, I am glad that I only had to stay 1 night. The attitude and appearance of the staff is very poor and unprofessional. The up-keep of the room need to be maintained and monitored better. This was open night for Kings Dominions Halloween Haunt open night and this property was not prepared at all. I have worked in hospitality before and my sister is actually a manager of a hotel property and I can say that I was very disappointed on many levels with this property/location and I will never recommend it to anyone. First impressions are everything and you lost me as a client within the first 10-15 minutes of me being there.

"Very poorly managed"

I stayed at this hotel because it is near the Virginia State Fair. The evening before checking in, I called the hotel many times because I had some questions. Over the course of several hours, no one answered the phone. That worried me... On the day of check in, I arrived at 4pm. There was a very long line of people waiting to check in. We were all told that the hotel was sold out and that our rooms were not ready. Eventually, I got to the front of the line and was given a room key. The room did not have enough towels, had neither bar soap nor a "do not disturb" sign, had water on the bathroom floor, and the deadbolt did not work. Calls to the front desk went unanswered, which is not surprising considering the long line. I went to the front desk at one point and heard a woman being told the room she'd booked flooded last night so there was no place for her to stay. Also, the Denny's is no longer there, so there was nowhere to get food. (The website still advertises the Denny's.) I would NOT blame the problems on the minimum-wage-paid staff. They were actually very poised considering they were dealing with very cranky customers. (Rebecca was especially good. She deserves a raise!!!) I asked a staff person who was cleaning towels if a bunch of people had called in sick and he said no, this was the normal staffing level. WHY more people weren't put on shift for a sold out weekend is absurd. This actually would have been a decent hotel if management had staffed it properly. The poor staff were given an impossible task of trying to manage a sold out hotel with just a few people. I'm sure with more people working, I would have reviewed this hotel 4-5 stars.
